Doctors and diagnosis of autism
If a doctor suggests that your child has autism, your immediate reaction might disbelief and the urge to seek a second opinion, third or even fourth. Because autism is so different in every child is a difficult disease to diagnose. However, there are some important ways in which doctors identify effective autism in children, and if your baby or small child has any of these signs of autism, you should consult your pediatrician immediately to express your concerns.
Autism occurs at a young age, instead may develop a disorder an older child. It is usually detected before the age of three years, and many times much sooner. The first signs of autism are usually delays or regression in speech communication. Another early sign is abnormal behavior in group play situations and other social situations. The first step is to diagnose autism in a complete physical examination and a review of family history by a specialist. While your pediatrician is able to detect unusual behavior, check that your child will be examined by a professional who specializes in autism and similar illnesses, if your child is diagnosed.
The next step includes hearing tests. Sine language and social skills may delay due to inadequate auditory sensations. There are two types of hearing tests that can hear the sounds of a child and another that requires sedation and measures the brain's response to certain records sound. Of course, the first method preferable because it does not require the use of a sedative. After hearing tests can promote your doctor test your child for Fragile X syndrome, which often time goes hand in hand with autism. Metabolism can be assessed. To do this, ask your doctor a sample of blood or urine tests to analyze DNA.
MRI or CT scan may also be useful in the diagnosis of autism. The most important thing is to work with doctors you trust. Second opinion can be very helpful, but if your child has been diagnosed, stick with a doctor so that treatment is uniform and get used to allow your child to that person.
Autism is difficult to diagnose and even harder to treat, so remember that you should start to learn as much as possible about the disease as quickly identified by your doctor. If you still talk to your doctor about abnormal behavior of your child, do so immediately. By detecting autism early, you give your child a better chance of always been a person of high-functioning much more opportunities in life.
